Custom Dotnetnuke (DNN) Skin Design

About Rhoek.com, the designer.

Rhoek.com is the online presence of UK based web designer, Rick Beddie.

I've been designing and building websites since 2004, using X/HTML, CSS, Dotnetnuke, flash and anything else that lends itself to the particular project.

Graduating from college with an HND in Graphic Design for print I quickly realised that web design and digital media appealed to me more because of the interactivity that comes with the medium. I like the process of designing still graphics in photoshop, and then turning them into "interfaces" for websites and flash based projects.

Why Dotnetnuke?

I was introduced to the framework as part of my first job. The company I worked for used the CMS as the base for their products and sites so I got to use it every day, exploring the benefits of breaking the design away from the functionality. My role within the company was as a creative web designer, so the majority of my work involved the look and feel of skins and containers, as well as laying out the content for the majority of our clients.

Since then I've always had a DNN based website for Rhoek.com, using it as a playground for skins, containers and a showcase for the templates I sell on snowcovered. With the introduction of the blog module it has also become a place where I write about Dotnetnuke and web design, as well as a repository to collect and share links to resources/sites I use and general ramblings.

Experience

I've been working in the web design industry since 2004, spending the first 11 months in a home based position focusing on the development of skins and sites using DotNetNuke. After this I decided to persue a freelance position designing and building DNN skins for anyone and everyone who approached me. This lasted almost a year, by which time I was itching to get into a design studio, and so came the move to Dumfries for 6 months and web work for the company,Weesleekit. I'm now designing for an online marketing company in Dundee, where I've been since January of 2007, focusing my HTML skills in SEO, accessibility and CSS.

Rhoek.com is a design blog focusing on web design and dotnetnuke skin design.

I have been designing and developing websites and custom/template dotnetnuke skins since 2003 and have experience in X/HTML, CSS, javascript, DNN skinning, XML, XSLT, accessibility, usability, email design and building, and Search Engine Optimisation.
